Yesterday was the most incredible day of my life. I witnessed the
birth of my first son Ethan William. He was born at 11:12am
weighing in at 7 lbs, 2 oz. He was 21 inches long. He was also
totally perfect. Not a blemish or mark on him....not even a birth
mark.

For those of you that care the birth story really begins about 3-4
weeks ago after an apointment with the midwife. Gina and I were
told he was 2cm dialated and 50% effaced. I we all thought he was
going to come early. To make a long story short there was really
no progress over the next couple weeks and we eventually watched
the due date of 3/2/99 come and go. Getting kind of nervous, Gina
and I begin trying all home remedies known to man to encourage
labour; herbs, wine, walking and the beloved Castor Oil. On the
night of 3/7 Gina injested over 3 large table spoons of this awful
lubricant with myself and friends taking some along with her as
encouragement. We went to bed with no sign of anything happening.

The alarm woke us at 7am and Gina complained of some craps but
quickly got up and went to work. Around 9:30am Gina called me at
my office and said she had more cramps and was going home. About
15 mins later she was at my office asking me to take her home as
it hurt. I asked her if she thought this was IT and we should go
to the hospital. She said it didnt feel like contractions and she
was worried it was going to be a diareah/gas attack and didn't
want to have the embarrassment of the hospital sending her home
with GAS. We decided to go to her doctors office and get her
checked there. We arrived they told us they had several
emergencies and it would be a while. Gina was obvisouly in pain
while we waited but she still claimed it didn't feel like
contractions. The Doc popped in the office and said Gina didn't
look like she was in labour and told us to hang on she will be
with us soon. She came back 5 min or so later and did her exame
and I could tell immediately by the suprise on her face this was
IT. She said Gina was 7cm and we need to get right to the
hospital! We didn't have our bag, camera, anything! We went
right to the hospital and there was a lady waiting downstairs for
us with a wheel chair. We got to the room at around 10:15am and
it was in motion. 3-4 people were buzzing around bringing
equipment, getting us to sign forms, meanwhile Gina was now really
having some intense pain! The midwife came in and checked her and
said she is now 8cm!

Gina was literally yelling with each contraction. (She refused
all pain medication and even an epidoral). I was so concerned as
I had never seen her in so much pain and there was nothing I could
do about but hold her hand. Her grip told me how much it hurt.
For a minute there I thought I lost my thumb from her grip.

By the time the midwife had instructed her to open her legs, the
head of our son was already exposed. Within 30 more seconds he
slid out. Unbelievable. I let go such a rush of emotion I
brokedown and sobbed like a baby. It was an abolute miracle!
Words really can't describe the feelings at that point. He
immediately started crying and within about 30 seconds opened his
eyes and looked right at me. I held his hand and he stopped
crying! This was my son. Gina and I had created a new life!
Absolutely, incredible. He was sooooo perfect. Sooo Small. So
peacefull.

I thank Gina my lovely wife who did so well. I love you so much!

Thank you for listening
